Pop-Up Class: Power Restore

Join Rae Helsel for a special pop-up class: Power Restore “Finding Refuge.”

“We feel the breath, as we inhale we draw ourselves into the moment by attending to a single simple action, this is the tool that takes us out of the chaos of the mind and brings us back into clarity. We call this taking refuge in the body. Our practice is about creating awareness in the moment.” // Thomas Droge

To find balance on the inside and the outside, we need REST just as much as we need MOVEMENT. Drawing upon 5 Element Theory and the principles of interval training, this heart-themed class creatively intertwines a strong vinyasa practice with deeply restorative modalities to increase heart rate variability, optimize vagal tone and encourage homeostasis within the body. It allows the body to adeptly move between the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system in one comprehensive practice, and it facilitates our deep human potential for self-regulation and healing. It’s how we foster our resilience - physically, mentally, and emotionally.

In Chinese medicine, the heart is a very important organ, and not just physically - it’s said that the heart holds the SHEN, which is really our spirit. When we get burnt out, the Shen is said to leave the physical body, and then the emotion that manifests is anxiety.

Taught by Rae Helsel, the intention for this workshop is to flow, breathe, and be still as an invitation for the Shen to fully land within so that we can remember (and move from) an embodied state.

About Rae:

Rae Helsel, E-RYT 500, is a mindful restorative yin instructor who also incorporates meditation, Yoga Nidra, and neuroscience into the classes and trainings that she leads. A cancer survivor, with a career in software development, Rae believes wholeheartedly in the power of this practice to restore and heal.

She has over 2,000 hours of education, and continues to study with her teachers Jane Fryer, Judith Lasater, and Bernie Clark from the belief that we need guidance and community to continue to grow and expand.

The intention behind The Rest Movement is to ease our minds and hearts into being more open, present and relaxed. It is a powerful counterbalance to the vibrant action of daily life, and an invaluable practice for radiating wellness - a pathway to healing and self-discovery. And on a more subtle level, it is a practice designed to encourage harmony with seasonal and personal energetics.
